This workshop provides a practical introduction to the principles of sustainable business with a focus on the business case for undertaking sustainability initiatives within the tourism sector. Key sustainability factors are presented with examples of how tourism businesses are leveraging these opportunities. A simple process for assessing business sustainability is presented along with a how-to-guide for prioritising and actioning sustainability initiatives.
Course content includes:
- A working definition of sustainability in business
- What a sustainable business looks like and a pathway to sustainability
- Sustainability factors – marketing and branding, transport, energy use, waste, procurement and carbon footprint
- An overview of sustainable tourism standards e.g. Green Globe, Qualmark
- Case study businesses including cost benefit analysis of implemented sustainability initiatives
- Assessing your business then how to prioritise and action sustainability initiatives
- Useful resources and the next step
